Golf Course Sale Negotiations Suspended
Negotiations in connection with the sale by Realmark of
the Burnt Store Marina Golf Course, Fitness Center and
tennis courts to Burnt Store Golf and Activities Club
have been suspended. While the parties came to agreement
in principle on essentially all of the substantive
issues, when the formal contract was presented for
review by the parties, there was disagreement as to how
certain matters should be documented. Legal counsel for
each party advised that a change in their positions on
the matters at issue was not in their respective best
interests.
BSGAC has indicated it will continue golf course
operations under the long term lease presently in place
with Realmark. Realmark intends to keep the fitness
center and tennis courts open and operational as well.
Realmark looks forward to continuing its business
relationship with BSGAC and remains open to the
possibility of working out the sale of these amenities
over time and under terms and conditions to which the
parties can fully agree.
As in the past, Realmark appreciates the support of the
community in connection with our efforts to improve the
marina operations and related businesses for the overall
long range benefit of Burnt Store Marina residents.

Realmark Opens Ship’s Store
Realmark is pleased to announce that there will be a new ship’s store opening
soon in the space
formerly occupied by Pignoli’s next to the Tiki Hut
area, adjacent to the Harbor Master’s office. The new
store which will be known as ‘The Water Cooler’,
will be operated by Scott Rush and Ryan Cook, both
experienced, young and energetic proprietors.
The Water Cooler is expected to offer a wide array of
items to assist with your boating, fishing and other
marine related recreational needs including bait &
tackle and ice. The Water Cooler will also be a source
for fresh seafood, produce, breakfast, lunch and
associated snacks. The store will return to providing
some basic household staples and sundries as well.
We welcome Scott & Ryan aboard, wish them the best and
hope that you avail yourself of the opportunity to
support their efforts. We all appreciate your support
and patronage.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
Greetings folks, many of you may have heard about the
Hearing before the Lee County Board of County
Commissioners which was held last Wednesday, February 25
regarding a change in Land Use Classification for the
area around the marina in the Burnt Store Marina
community. Realmark sought the change from ‘Rural’ to
‘Burnt Store Marina Village’ to accommodate the sort of
redevelopment around the Marina which Realmark has
envisioned, and which has been presented to the
community.
We are very pleased to report that as a result of the
broad and deep support within the community as expressed
to the Commissioners by so many of you, we were
successful in obtaining the reclassification. By a vote
of four to one, Commissioners endorsed the long range
vision as it had been presented. We at Realmark
recognize that our having prevailed in this effort to
establish the development parameters for the marina area
is due in no small part indeed to your efforts and
assistance by way of communicating your support for the
redevelopment plans directly to the Commissioners. Quite
a number of you showed up at the Hearing to express your
support as well, and for all your efforts we are very
grateful.
On behalf of Will Stout, Craig Dearden, Laura Straus and
the entire team at the Realmark Development Group of
Companies we want to express our gratitude and
appreciation for all your assistance. We will be
reaching out again for your support and assistance as we
proceed through the process of obtaining Development
Orders, and of course we hope we can count on you again.
We will also be interested in hearing your input as
plans are refined and presented for consideration. We
also want you to know that we hear your specific
concerns and questions and we are looking into
alternatives that could help alleviate some of those
concerns. An example would be efforts to ‘temporarily’
open an alternate construction entrance – we may well
need support at the County or State to support an
alternate ‘temporary’ entrance – we’ll keep you posted
on those efforts as well.
Please stay tuned to our website,
www.burntstoremarina.com,
and never hesitate to contact me personally if you ever
have questions, or need any information. And please also
be sure to forward this to as many friends and
associates as you care to – we want to be sure our
message of appreciation gains the same wide circulation
as did our requests for support.
Thanks to all for your support!!!
Pete

Update on Hearing before County Commissioners:
The Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25; it
starts at 9:30 a.m. but the Agenda is long and Realmark
/ Burnt Store is toward the end. Our attorney advises us
that he does not expect the Hearing to run into the next
day (as was the case last Fall) but that Realmark will
very likely be on in the afternoon, perhaps late
afternoon. We hope this does not discourage residents
from attending. The Board will be taking public comment
and speakers must fill out a card at the beginning of
the meeting. We can fill out cards for those who’d like
to speak so they don’t have to be there first thing.
Please advise by return email or phone call,
239-541-1372, if you’d like us to fill out a request to
speak on your behalf.
A copy of the Agenda is included at the link below:
http://www3.leegov.com/dcd/Agendas/bcc/2009/02/feb252009.pdf
Please Note: Realmark representatives
will meet with residents interested in hearing more
about Realmark's plans for development around the
Marina, on Friday, February 20, 3:00 p.m. at the Tiki
Hut, by Portobello's. We will bring our presentation
boards with colored renderings and site plans, and will
be prepared to give a little presentation and entertain
questions. The purpose of the meeting is to provide the
information needed to address any concerns, clarify any
misunderstandings about the proposed marina
redevelopment plan and provide any answers you need to
encourage sending your expressions of support to the
Board of County Commissioners.
Thanks to all for your interest and support.

There is a Lee County Board of
County Commissioners Hearing scheduled for Wednesday,
February 25th (time to be announced) for the Board
to give final approval for, and adopt a new Land Use
Classification for Burnt Store Marina called ‘Burnt
Store Marina Village’. This Land Use Classification
accommodates the sort of development Realmark plans for
the area around the Marina whereas the current
classification as ‘Rural’ does not.
We have posted an update which provides current
information and some history about this process so that
residents have good information as background for their
support (rather than the misinformation being circulated
at other, anti-development websites). Site plans and
renderings of the proposed development are posted
here as well. THIS IS NOT A
DEVELOPMENT ORDER. Rather it sets the outside parameters
for any development plans. We are hoping that interested
residents will contact the Commissioners to let them
know you support Realmark’s plans. We also hope to have
substantial support from the community at the Hearing on
the 25th. Below we have posted the contact information
for the Commissioners.
Realmark very much appreciates both the feedback and
support from the community for the plans for
redevelopment around the marina. Thank you.
